These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Kiddometer website, reading quiz platform, and all related services (collectively, the “Service”), operated by Candela Labs, LLC, doing business as Kiddometer (“Kiddometer,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please discontinue use immediately.
We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
1. Who We Are and What We Offer
Kiddometer provides a family-oriented platform that includes:
• Reading Comprehension Quizzes: A quiz platform at kiddometer.com where parents create accounts, add child profiles, and children take reading comprehension quizzes on books they have read. Children earn XP, stars, streaks, achievements, and level progression as they complete quizzes.
• Travel and Family Content: AI-generated travel guides, itineraries, resort and hotel finders, rainy day activity guides, kid-friendly restaurant guides, transportation guides, and trip cost estimators for families.
• Affiliate Links and Recommendations: We feature affiliate links to products on Amazon (including books and travel gear), hotels, resorts, tours, and other family-friendly experiences. We may earn a commission when you purchase through these links, at no additional cost to you.
• Informational Content: Blog posts, articles, rankings, and guides covering family travel, books, and activities.
2. Eligibility
To create an account and access the Service, you must:
• Be at least 18 years of age (account holders must be adults/parents or legal guardians).
• Reside in the United States.
• Not be prohibited from receiving services under applicable U.S. law.
• Provide accurate, complete, and current registration information and keep it updated.
The quiz platform is designed for children in grades 1–5, but accounts are created and managed exclusively by parents or legal guardians. Children do not create accounts and are not required to provide any personal information to use the quiz features.
3. Accounts and Registration
To access the reading quiz platform, parents must register with an email address and password. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorized access.
You may add child profiles under your account. Child profiles require only a name, grade level, and optional avatar—no email address, phone number, or other contact information is collected from children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 directly; all account information is provided by the parent or guardian.
4. Children’s Privacy and COPPA Compliance
Kiddometer takes children’s privacy seriously and complies with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”).
• No personal information is collected directly from children.
• Child profiles contain only a name (which may be a nickname or first name), grade level, optional age, and avatar selection—all entered by the parent.
• Quiz activity data (scores, XP, achievements, streaks) is associated with the child profile and accessible only to the parent account holder.
• We do not share child profile data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
• Parents may review, update, or delete their child’s profile and associated data at any time through the account settings or by contacting [email protected].

5. Reading Quiz Platform
The quiz platform at kiddometer.com allows children to take reading comprehension quizzes on books they have read. Each quiz is designed to assess genuine reading comprehension at the appropriate grade level.
Quiz features include XP (experience points), star ratings, streak tracking, achievements, and level progression. These are for engagement and motivation purposes only and do not constitute academic credentials or assessments.
Quiz access is limited by a daily star allowance that resets each day. Parents retain full control over child profiles and quiz access through their account.
6. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer
Kiddometer uses artificial intelligence to generate travel guides, and other content (“AI Content”). You acknowledge that:
• AI Content may contain errors, inaccuracies, or outdated information.
• AI Content is provided for informational and entertainment purposes only and is not a substitute for professional advice (travel, legal, medical, safety, or financial).
• Travel conditions, visa requirements, hotel availability, business hours, and similar details change frequently. Always verify critical information from official sources before making decisions.
Your reliance on any AI Content is solely at your own risk.
7. Affiliate Links and Commercial Relationships
Kiddometer participates in affiliate programs, including the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and other affiliate programs for hotels, resorts, tours, and travel gear. When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission. This does not affect the price you pay.
Affiliate links are identified by context and standard disclosure. Our editorial recommendations are independent of affiliate relationships; however, you should assume that links to products and services may result in compensation to Kiddometer.
Kiddometer does not guarantee the accuracy of pricing, availability, or product descriptions provided by third-party retailers or affiliates. All purchases are subject to the retailer’s own terms and policies.
8. Resort and Hotel Finder
Kiddometer’s resort and hotel finder features provide AI-assisted recommendations for family travel. These recommendations are informational only. Kiddometer does not make reservations on your behalf and is not responsible for the quality, availability, pricing, or any experience you have with any hotel, resort, or accommodation provider. Always confirm details directly with the property before booking.
9. User Conduct
You agree not to:
• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or another user’s account.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code or AI models underlying the Service.
• Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information.
• Use automated tools to scrape, harvest, or extract data from the Service.
• Upload or transmit viruses or other malicious code.
• Submit sensitive personal information (such as Social Security numbers, financial account data, or health records) into any AI feature.
• Generate, solicit, or distribute content that is harmful, abusive, harassing, defamatory, or illegal.
• Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit AI-generated content without written permission.
Violations may result in suspension or termination of your account.
10. Intellectual Property
All content, trademarks, logos, software, and other materials on the Service are owned by Kiddometer or its licensors. Subject to your compliance with these Terms, you are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes.
You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works of, publicly display, or commercially exploit any content from the Service without prior written permission.
AI-generated guides and content you generate through your account are licensed to you for personal use only under the same terms above.
11. Privacy
Your use of the Service is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. Please review it carefully to understand our data practices, including how we handle parent account information, child profile data, and quiz activity data.
12. Subscriptions and Payments
Certain features of the Service, including unlimited AI guide generation, may require a paid subscription. Free access may be limited (for example, a limited number of free AI guide generations).
• Payment Processing: Payments are processed securely by Stripe. Kiddometer does not store credit card numbers.
• Billing: Subscriptions are billed on a recurring monthly or annual basis. By subscribing, you authorize recurring charges until you cancel.
• Cancellation: You may cancel at any time through your account settings. Access continues through the end of your current billing period.
• Refunds: All subscription fees are non-refundable. No credits are issued for partial periods or unused features.
• Price Changes: We may update subscription pricing with advance notice. Continued use constitutes acceptance of new pricing.
• Taxes: Fees are exclusive of applicable taxes, which are your responsibility.

13. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. KIDDOMETER DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
14. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, KIDDOMETER AND ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, AND LICENSORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE. IN NO EVENT SHALL KIDDOMETER’S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU EXCEED THE AMOUNTS PAID BY YOU TO KIDDOMETER IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.
15. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Kiddometer and its affiliates, officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or relating to your use of the Service, your User Content, or your violation of these Terms.
16. Third-Party Links and Services
The Service may contain links to third-party websites, products, or services, including affiliate links for books, travel gear, hotels, resorts, and tours. These links are provided for convenience only. Kiddometer does not endorse, control, or assume responsibility for any third-party content, products, or services. Your interactions with third parties are governed by their own terms and policies.
17. Modifications to the Service
Kiddometer may modify, suspend, or discontinue any aspect of the Service at any time, with or without notice. We are not liable to you or any third party for any such modification, suspension, or discontinuation.
18. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account and access to the Service at any time, with or without cause, including for breach of these Terms, non-payment, inactivity, or at our sole discretion. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and dispute resolution) will survive.
19. Dispute Resolution
Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved by binding individual arbitration under the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”) Commercial Arbitration Rules and Consumer Rules. You waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration. Notwithstanding the foregoing, either party may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction for matters involving intellectual property or imminent harm.
To the extent permitted by law, any claim must be filed within one (1) year of when it arose.
20. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. To the extent court proceedings are permitted under Section 19, you consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in New Jersey.
21. General
• Entire Agreement: These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Kiddometer regarding the Service.
• Severability: If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force.
• No Waiver: Failure to enforce any right does not constitute a waiver.
• U.S. Only: The Service is intended for use within the United States. Users outside the U.S. should not submit personal information.
